Course completion can prove that a learner reached the end of a defined activity. It does not always prove the wider claim made by a certification.
When automatic issuance is reasonable
A certificate of completion may issue automatically when the provider's only criterion is successful completion of a well-defined course or quiz. The identity method, pass rule and attempt policy should still be documented.
When approval should intervene
Use an approval step when the credential depends on:
- External or workplace evidence
- Identity beyond account possession
- Supervised practice
- Several assessments
- Professional standing
- Payment or agreement checks
- An exception or appeal
- A claim with material safety or regulatory consequences
Completion can change the learner to “eligible for review” without issuing the final record.
Match the credential type
Enrolius distinguishes certificate of completion, professional certification, continuing-education record and digital badge. Choose the smallest accurate claim. Calling a course-completion document a professional certification can mislead learners and verifiers.
Keep the rule with the program
Record which version of the criteria applied. If the pass score or evidence rule changes, earlier credentials should remain understandable. Do not silently reinterpret historical records.
Design the decision
Specify the actor, inputs, allowed outcomes and reason codes. An approval record should answer who decided, when, on what evidence and under which program version.
How Enrolius supports control
Providers can use native learning, quizzes and progress, SCORM 1.2 beta, manual/evidence routes and typed credentials. They decide whether learning completion is sufficient or one input to review.
Public verification confirms the provider-attributed issued record. It does not turn a completion into accreditation.
Test the dangerous cases
Try duplicate completion events, a failed identity check, expired evidence, an overturned result and a learner who passes after the criteria change. The system and policy should reach predictable outcomes.
Frequently asked questions
Is manual approval always better?
No. It adds delay and cost. Use it when the credential claim or evidence requires judgment.
Can Enrolius issue completion certificates?
Yes. Certificate of completion is one of the supported credential types.
